Worship Ministry

Worship Team
We offer two worship services at 8:30AM and 11:00AM each Sunday morning. Over the years our church has moved toward a decidedly contemporary style of worship. The structure of the worship service is very flexible from week to week but generally follows a pattern of singing, interspersed with Scripture readings, prayer and preaching.

Within that contemporary framework, however, we integrate hymns as well as modern worship songs in an effort to adapt the old styles into a culturally relevant setting. The music team is led by a quality team of vocalists and a worship band.

Communion Servers
In our worship context, a visitor will sense a strong invitation to personally engage in a worshipful encounter with the Lord. In addition to this, each of our worship services clearly emphasizes Christ as our greatest joy in life. The structure of the worship services is non-liturgical and strongly Christ-centered in content. With regard to baptism and the Lord's Supper, the church is non-sacramental in its theology and practice. The Lord's Supper is celebrated on a monthly basis and is an important part of our worship service commemorating the death and resurrection of Christ. Baptism is performed by immersion on those who demonstrate true faith in Christ for their salvation and is celebrated as part of our worship service three or four times a year.

One of the positive qualities about the people at the Evangelical Free Church of Sycamore-DeKalb is their strong desire to obey God and live according to the Scriptures. People’s hearts are positioned for the Holy Spirit to transform and shape their lives. This is what God desires for each of us as we worship Him, and we invite you to participate with us.

The focus of this prayer ministry is concentrated at the end of the worship service when those who are in need of prayer are invited to come forward to receive prayer help. We typically have a male and a female available up front to pray up near the platform. Volunteers serve on a 3-month rotation.
Communion Preparation Team
This ministry involves the preparation of the bread and cup trays which are used for our monthly Communion services as well as additional special Communion services (i.e. Christmas Eve, Good Friday) throughout the year. Volunteers take turns arriving early prior to the service to prepare the elements as well as cleaning the trays after the service is finished.
